Listen to Beck’s Radio-Friendly New Single, “Up All Night”

Music News Beck

Beck’s not-yet-titled follow-up album to 2014’s Morning Phase is reportedly set to be released sometime in November. In preparation for it, Beck released “Wow” earlier this summer, and now he’s released another single titled “Up All Night.”

Morning Phase certainly marked a new direction for the musician—it was smoother, crisper and more poppy than his earlier material, and remarkably different from his dazed, trancey music in the ‘90s. But Morning Phase was a hit, winning Beck Grammys for Album of the Year, Best Rock Album and Best Engineered Album.

“Up All Night” plays much more as a pop song than any of Beck’s other work. Stereogum likens it to a Maroon 5 song, which is pretty accurate by all accounts. It appears in the FIFA ‘17 videogame soundtrack, which is telling: it’s pretty hard to imagine most of Beck’s earlier work fitting in particularly well alongside other FIFA musical features like Two Door Cinema Club and Bastille.

Note: “Up All Night” has been removed from YouTube since this article was published. We will update the post if and when the song is made available again.
