Black Prairie—a Portland band featuring four members of The Decemberists musically adapted Jon Mooallem’s novel Wild Ones with an 11-song soundtrack that was released this week.
The non-fiction book tells the story of the relationship between Mooallem’s daughter and the animal’s that inhabit the world she lives in. The book contemplates the extinction of three primal species and how they can exist in a world that seems to be falling apart.
The official title of the album gives us a descriptive idea on what it’s all about:
Black Prairie Performs Wild Ones: A Musical Score for the Things That You Might See in Your Head When You Reflect on Certain Characters and Incidents That You Read About In the Book.
