Garrett Borns hit us hard. Just walloped right across the face — smack against the right cheek and then he came right back and did the same kind of number on the left cheek, with crisp follow-through, so we knew that we were awake and this was all happening. What happened that afternoon in Brooklyn, while we were in town taping sessions at Room 17 during the CMJ festival in October, was one of those moments where everything was blissfully right, where you were drunk, but you hadn’t touched a drop. “Electric Love” is going to be one of the biggest pop radio hits of 2015 and BORNS is going to be a household name. Usually the essays that post here try to be as cerebral as possible. They try to find something underneath the nails of the songs and the artists that they’re about, but these songs don’t need to be thought about very much at all. They’re too busy being loved and sung out loud and sweaty, for we’re so quickly smitten by them. They are pure dope. They make you feel as if you never have to sleep again. You have been refueled and you’re beaming — absolutely beaming.
