Chaka Khan Releases Her First New Music Since 2007

For the first time in over a decade, Chaka Khan has released a new single, titled “Like Sugar.”

Khan’s career has spanned over 40 years. She is best known for her breakout hit “Tell Me Something Good” with funk band Rufus, as well as for her cover of Prince’s “I Feel for You” (which features a harmonica solo by Stevie Wonder, a rap intro by Grandmaster Melle Mel and enough slapping bass lines to sound like a sexier version of the Seinfeld theme song). In addition to her success as a solo artists, Khan was a frequent collaborator with Prince and Ray Charles, and has won 10 Grammys.

Khan’s last album was 2007’s Funk This, an album title you can only pull off if you are the reigning Queen of Funk and/or have a street named after you in Chicago.

“Like Sugar” is the first single to be released from her forthcoming album. Khan also released a remix of “Like Sugar” by former Major Lazer member Switch. Check out both versions of the song below, plus a Khan performance circa 1994 from the Paste archives.
