CMJ Founders Launch New Music Festival and Business Summit

Music News

The founders of the CMJ trade magazine and the CMJ festival, Bobby Haber and Joanne Abbot Green, respectively, are now launching a strikingly similar music festival and business summit in New York City this September called Mondo.NYC.

Haber and Green sold CMJ in 2012, and the CMJ site does not indicate if there will be a festival this year. The event traditionally takes place in October.

According to a press release, Mondo.NYC aims to “celebrate groundbreaking performers, while connecting innovators in music, technology and content in a shared mission to empower artists and revolutionize the music industry through technology.”

Though a lineup has not been announced, Mondo.NYC is still accepting artist submissions. Spanning from Sept. 14-18, the performances will take place in venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn. Tickets are already on sale.

The daytime summit will discuss subjects such as streaming and major and independent record labels. The summit will include panels, info sessions and more. Mondo.NYC is also launching a website to provide live music footage, music discovery resources, and the like.
