Death Cab For Cutie Tease New Album, Announce U.S. Tour Dates

Death Cab for Cutie have begun teasing their forthcoming album and they’ve also announced a fall U.S. tour.

The forthcoming record will mark the band’s ninth studio album and their first full-length since 2015’s Kintsugi. Since then, lead vocalist Ben Gibbard covered Teenage Fanclub’s classic 1991 record Bandwagonesque in full, and the band released an original anti-Trump song called “Million Dollar Loan.”

The band teased their new album with a brand new video, which contains a brief clip of music and at the end, features the date “August 2018,” presumably the release date of their record. The percussion-led clip of music features ethereal synths and Gibbard’s distorted lead vocals as he repeats the lines, “I dreamt we spoke / I dreamt we spoke again.”

According to a press release, the band recently finished recording the album and it marks the first Death Cab for Cutie release to feature long-time bandmates Ben Gibbard, Nick Harmer, and Jason McGerr alongside new live members Dave Depper (Fruit Bats, Ray Lamontagne) and Zac Rae (Fiona Apple, Lana Del Rey).

The band’s newly announced U.S. tour will see the band play intimate venues and theaters across North America. The tour begins on Sept. 24 in Oregon and it continues through mid-October. Death Cab for Cutie pre-sales begin Wednesday, May 2 at 10 a.m. local time. All remaining tickets will be released to the general public on Friday, May 4 at 10 a.m. local time.

One dollar from each ticket purchased through the band’s website will go towards The Aurora Commons, a Seattle based non-profit organization that offers a safe space for unhoused neighbors to rest, prepare a meal, connect to resources, and collectively create a healthy and vibrant community.

Meanwhile, Death Cab for Cutie will also embark on a series of international summer live dates, including headlining shows in the Netherlands and the U.K. In addition, the band will headline a number of upcoming festivals, including Missoula’s Travelers’ Rest Festival, curated by The Decemberists, as well as Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful Festival and Brazil’s Popload Festival.
