Deftones’ Chino Moreno Will Perform Inside a Volcano

Music News Deftones

Alternative-metal band Deftones released their latest album Gore to renewed critical acclaim this past April.

The band has since been touring in support of the record and will make a headlining appearance at the small Secret Solstice Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland this weekend.

However, frontman Chino Moreno will also play a small acoustic set, not on a stage, but inside an actual dormant volcano.

The festival bills the set as “Inside the Volcano,” “the world’s first public performance inside the dormant magma chamber of a formerly active volcano.”

The sold-out show will feature an audience of only 20 who will helicopter ride to the concert location before being lowered “a distance almost twice the height of the Statue of Liberty” into the gaping maw of Thrihnukagigur.

The show’s website also casually mentions that the show will be “quite safe” because Thrihnukagigur hasn’t erupted in more than 4,000 years. Still, that’s far from a 100 percent guarantee.

Hopefully, the extremely metal concept of playing within a magma chamber will only end brutally in a good, positive kind of way.
