Dido Announces First New Album in Five Years, Releases Lead Single

British singer-songwriter Dido exploded onto the scene with her debut album No Angel in 1999, an LP that led to her being sampled in one of Eminem’s more unsettling (and most famous) tracks, “Stan.” After releasing three more albums over the next 14 years, she basically dropped off the musical map. Now, reemerging after her years-long disappearance, Dido has announced her fifth studio album and her first tour in 15 years. With the announcement came the first single from the album, “Hurricanes.”

Still On My Mind is Dido’s first release since 2013’s Girl Who Got Away. The singer-songwriter again collaborated with brother Rollo Armstrong (Faithless), crafting her return that is said to be “ranging from her love of hip-hop to her folk roots” while ultimately carrying “a dance and electronic music sensibility.”

“It was simple, I only wanted to make another album if it was with him,” said Dido in a statement. “It was made in such an easy way, all the vocals recorded on the sofa, a lot of it recorded at home.”

“Hurricanes,” the lead single from the album, reflects all of the above. It has the electronic, atmospheric sound the artist is known for while also being a scaled-back, softer release. However, after she wisps out the main line in the track (“Let me face the sound and fury / Let me face hurricanes), it grows, eventually taking on a more dance-able, trance vibe.

“I wanted to capture the feeling I still get from listening to music,” said Dido. “Just that rush like you don’t need anything more than this.”

Newly signed to BMG, ending her longtime relationship with Sony, Dido’s album will be released by the label on March 8, 2019. Dido will then embark on a 27-date world tour in support of the album, starting in the U.K. and Ireland before heading to North America. Find more information on the album and tour on her website.
