Goat Girl Announce Self-Titled Debut Album, Share New Track “The Man”

London buzz band Goat Girl have revealed the details of their self-titled debut album, out on April 6 via Rough Trade Records.

The four-piece guitar band follows the deep lineage of the much-talked-about “South London scene,” which has produced guitar bands like Fat White Family and more recently, Shame.

Along with previous singles “Country Sleaze” and “Cracker Drool,” the band have revealed a brand-new track, “The Man,” alongside its accompanying music video, which features a gender-swapped take on Beatlemania.

As demonstrated by “The Man” and their previously released material, Goat Girl have cultivated a unique and lively sound, marked by a mix of playful, charismatic post-punk lead vocals and mean, swampy, country-tinged guitar riffs. The result is a swirling, hypnotic, lo-fi sound with dashes of everything from country, jazz and post-punk to blues and krautrock.

Produced by Dan Carey (Franz Ferdinand, The Kills, Bat For Lashes), Goat Girl’s 19-track debut album appears to be the perfect antidote to “landfill indie”—a label referring to a monotonous, mediocre and inoffensive sound that many U.K. indie-rock bands either fail to shed or consciously try to avoid.

Unfazed by unleashing a quintessentially British-sounding album, the quartet say of the record’s inspiration:

Simply put, it’s an album that comes from growing up in London and the first hand experience of our city’s devolution. We wanted to think of it as this place seen not necessarily just through our eyes, but someone who can’t get past the abnormalities and strange happenings that exist in our city. We think this gives the freedom lyrically and musically to explore unspoken truths and emotions that we all as humans feel.

Goat Girl will make their U.S. live debut next month at Austin’s SXSW festival and at Brooklyn’s Union Pool on March 20.
