Check Out the New Michel Gondry-Directed White Stripes “City Lights” Video

Michel Gondry and Jack White have always had a fruitful relationship, so it’s no real surprise that the pair have teamed up again on an older recording from White. “City Lights” was originally supposed to be released in 2005 on the album Get Behind Me Satan, and has now been released on the compilation album Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016, making it the first new White Stripes song since 2008.

Gondry has made four other music videos for The White Stripes, and each has been as beautiful and unique as the last. This new video takes us inside a shower, where one person continues to draw on the glass partition, making new shapes as the previous ones are covered by steam.

Gondry has made a name for himself because of his acerbic and wonderful directing style. He’s one of the brilliant minds behind both Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and the beautifully strange video for The Foo Fighters’ “Everlong.” As for White’s new compilation album, you can pick that up wherever you buy music today. Check out the “City Lights” video above, and wonder who exactly is making those shower shapes.
