The way that Massachusetts’ Kingsley Flood details things, we’re throwing into these grand and complicated ideas of where a life should head, or where it’s not headed. We’re struck by struck by the foolishness of it, by the pride involved, by the way that the wheels just fall off in so many different ways. It gets harder and harder to figure out where the entrances and the exits are. There are wild rides and there are ill-advised pit stops. There are blinding lights and there are headaches to deal with the failures. There are episodes that are better left unaccounted for. They sing:
“I’m a man
Yeah, I’ve got my plan
Nobody knows it
Nobody knows it but me
Oh, how we gonna get back home
With our pies in the skies and our eyes on the horizon
But our lollipop stuck to the floor.”
