Miya Folick Shares “Malibu Barbie,” Her First Single Since the Release of Her Debut Premonitions

Mixing the airy, beach vibes of Beverly Hills, 90210 with the outright offbeat nuances of Twin Peaks, singer/songwriter Miya Folick is back with new single, “Malibu Barbie.”

The first taste of new music since her 2018 debut Premonitions, “Malibu Barbie” sees Folick exploring what it means to be a woman, and how it’s ultimately “a longing for an ideal.”

“It’s realizing that I can go to an extreme in pursuit of physical perfection, look around, and realize that I haven’t changed,” Folick said in a statement. “I am still longing and seeking something more. Who I am is not a place at which I can arrive.”

The song is ethereal with its minimalistic approach and dreamy synths. Folick’s vocals captivate listeners with her smooth tone and occasional whispered lyrics. “Malibu Barbie” not only is a fitting venture after Premonitions, but also sees the rising pop star taking her sound even further.

Prior to the single’s release, Folick has been touring with the likes of Sunflower Beam and Pale Waves, and is setting out on a string of festival appearances this summer.
