Morrissey Calls Bullshit on Buzzcocks for McDonalds Ad

Music News Morrissey

And in the latest case of Morrissey criticizing something …

Brooklyn Vegan points out that the former Smiths singer posted a note on his officially unofficial website, True To You, detailing his displeasure with 1970’s punk band Buzzcocks for allowing their song “What Do I Get?” to appear in a new ad for McDonalds in the U.K.

The ad depicts a father and son ordering one of the chain’s new garlic mayo and hot peri peri chicken wraps. The boy casts an enamored eye to the “punk” employee who makes the order while Never Mind the Bollocks…Here’s the Sex Pistols-esque font pops in and out. Watch it here.

Like any good punk fan, Morrissey is not having it. “Please, somebody, tell me it’s just a bad dream,” he bemoans in his note. “Pete Shelley has allowed McDonald’s to use Buzzcocks’ What do I get? to TV advertise McDonald’s new Big Flavour (the flavour being sawdust) Chicken Wraps?! In the words of another Buzzcocks song: oh shit …”
