Watch Peter Tork Perform Monkees Hits, Solo Cuts on This Day in 2011

Peter Thorkelson, better known as Peter Tork, was a founding member of The Monkees who played keys and bass in the band. He passed away at age 77 in February of this year following a battle with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare form of cancer in the salivary glands. Tork, Davy Jones, Dolenz and Michael Nesmith made up the pop-rock band that rose to fame in the 1960s and 1970s thanks to its TV show of the same name.

Tork’s death was preceded by Jones’ in 2012. Tork actually left the group for a period before re-joining them for the 1986 reunion tour. The band’s most recent album was Good Times!, released in 2016. They also released a holiday album, Christmas Party, last year.
