Prince Estate Announces Seven-Week Music Video Series

The Prince Estate has announced a new program in which it, partnering with Sony’s Legacy Recordings, will release rare Prince music videos in weekly batches to video streaming services. The releases will span 15 years of the late rock star’s career, from 1995 to 2010, and will continue through Dec. 14.

The weekly releases will be split up by album, with the first batch containing clips from 1995’s The Gold Experience and 1996’s Chaos and Disorder. Of the initial releases, the incredibly rare videos for “Endorphinmachine” (a clip that was only released as a hidden prize on the CD-Rom videogame released in advance of the 1995 LP), “Dolphin” and “Rock And Roll Is Alive! (And It Lives In Minneapolis)” (a video that only appeared as part of a VH1 broadcast special that aired in 1997) are included. Also released were the better-known videos for “Gold,” “Eye Hate U,” Dinner With Delores” and “The Same December.” Over the course of the next few weeks, dozens of other rarities will become available.

Back in June, Sony announced an exclusive distribution agreement spanning the same 15 years and including 300 tracks from Prince’s vast catalogue. Both agreements currently exclude music from the artist’s initial record deal with Warner Bros. Records, which was in place from 1977 to 1995. However, a few of the titles under this initial deal will transfer to Sony by 2021.
