Exclusive: Listen to San Fermin’s New Track “Asleep on the Train”

San Fermin may have already put out Belong, but this grand, Brooklyn-based troupe has no shortage of music to share. Now that the band has captivated you with enchanting harmonies and dynamic instrumental variety in their newest album, you can now hear one of the b-sides, a track called “Asleep on the Train,” exclusively at Paste.

“This song is a b-side that I’ve always liked, but it didn’t quite fit on the record,” says bandleader Ellis Ludwig-Leone. “The intro starts with kind of train whistle sound, and then the sax and violin come in with this chugging sound that inspired the lyrics to the song. The lyrics are inspired by late nights on the subway, all flickering fluorescent lights and post-party depression.”

San Fermin features vocals from Allen Tate and Charlene Kaye, and is Ludwig-Leone’s outlet for making indie-pop music, a juxtaposition to his experience composing music for the NYC Ballet, symphony orchestras across the country and off-Broadway musicals.

Belong was released in April as the band’s third studio album. The newest album is considered to be one of Ludwig-Leone’s most personal statements yet, confronting disconnection, displacement and anxiety. Listen to the track below, and check out the dates for San Fermin’s tour starting later this month, as well as their 2015 Daytrotter Session.
