Spoon Share New Rarity, “Shake It Off”

Austin indie-rock elder statesmen Spoon are marking the release of their greatest hits album Everything Hits at Once by making a decades-old rarity available digitally for the very first time. Originally a b-side from the band’s 1998 album A Series Of Sneaks, “Shake It Off” was first announced as the b-side to the band’s first new single since 2017, “No Bullets Spent.”

“Shake It Off” might as well be a lab-created cross-section of Spoon’s career-defining versatility, boasting a glam-rock strut, jangle-pop hooks and a punk-rock edge, all of which ultimately dissolve into a psych-rock freakout. It’s exactly the kind of ripper you’d expect a band like this to have just laying around on the cutting room floor.

Inspired by the band’s assembly of Everything Hits at Once, Paste recently attempted to narrow Spoon’s ample catalog down to just 10 tracks. You’ll find our picks for the very best of Spoon right here.

Listen to “Shake It Off” and revisit Spoon’s 2008 Daytrotter Session below. You can stream Everything Hits at Once right here.
