Watch Sufjan Stevens’ “Tell Me You Love Me” Video, Directed by Luca Guadagnino

Sufjan Stevens has shared a new video for “Tell Me You Love Me,” off his 2020 album The Ascension. The music video was directed by acclaimed Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino.

This is the second collaboration between Guadagnino and Stevens, with the singer providing two songs for Guadagnino’s 2017 film Call Me By Your Name. The soundtrack for the film was recently featured on Paste’s list of the 20 Best Albums to Study To.

The music video for “Tell Me You Love Me” is a collection of shots featuring abstract colors, arctic scenes, and isolated bodies writhing on the floor. Guadagnino said of his vision for the video in a statement:

The aching feeling of loving and wanting to be loved, the mystery of bodies that clash, the uncanny aspects of nature, the sublime music poetry and voice of Sufjan—all this went into this video that I am proud to have made with the collaboration of two more great artists, Alessio Bolzoni and Celia Hempton.
