The Weeknd Donates $100,000 in Support of #Unforgettable Campaign

In support of rapper French Montana’s now-viral initiative, The Weeknd has donated $100,000 to the Suubi Health Center in Uganda.

The “Unforgettable” campaign was inspired by French Montana’s visit to Uganda to film the music video for a song by the same name featuring Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd.

It was during this trip that French Montana visited a small rural health clinic with a focus on maternity and children’s care. “That touched my heart when I went out there. I wanted to help as soon as possible,” he recalled.

Since his trip in March, the rapper has used the #UnforgettableChallenge to raise awareness for the campaign, jump-starting it with his own $100,000 donation.

Hundreds, including Drake, Travis Scott and DJ Khaled, have shown their support by posting their interpretation of the dance featured in the music video. The donations from French Montana and now The Weeknd will help the Suubi Health Center pay for ambulances, premature incubators, a blood bank and an expansion to include a full maternity clinic.

A statement on the campaign’s website reads, “This is just the beginning. French Montana wants to build a movement that goes beyond one clinic in one village. A movement that will bring unforgettable joy and opportunity to women, children and families in Uganda and across the globe.”
