Around the world today, fans are mourning the loss of British indie band Viola Beach, whose members and manager were simultaneously killed in an auto accident on Saturday in Sweden. Members Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin, along with manager Craig Tarrand, were all killed when their car fell off a bridge into a canal near the city of Stockholm.
Fans have already responded with a campaign to posthumously recognize the Warrington band, pushing to make their single “Swings & Waterslides” #1 on the British charts. As of Monday, it’s currently cracked the top 40 and is continuing to rise. The band’s label, Communion, confirmed that sales of the single will benefit the families of those lost in the tragic accident.
Viola Beach had only recently made its introduction to the Paste audience via a Daytrotter session in October. You can now listen to all the tracks from that excellent session below, including “Swings & Waterslides.”
Our thoughts are with the families of those lost in the accident.
