ZZ Top’s Greatest Hits to Be Featured in Las Vegas-Based Musical Sharp Dressed Man

Classic rock will be taking the stage as hits from ZZ Top will be featured in a newly announced rock musical in Las Vegas, per Variety.

Vegas-based Caesars Entertainment, led by Michael Gruber and Jason Gastwirth, will be developing the musical featuring classic hits from the trio. Titled Sharp Dressed Man, the musical has been described as an “outrageous, bawdy musical romp.” The plot entails an ordinary mechanic becoming a modern-day Robin Hood, all with the help of his beer drinking buddies.

“ZZ Top holds a special place in American music history,” Gastwirth told Variety. “Their songs incorporate rich imagery that lends itself to the narrative form. The addition of ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ to our already diverse entertainment lineup is exactly the component we are excited to welcome to the family for our guests.”

ZZ Top’s greatest hits, including songs like “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “La Grange” and “Cheap Sunglasses,” will help tell the tale.

The show is written by Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins, the duo behind the writing for Fox’s Grease Live! Cary and Tolins will also double as producers. ZZ Top members Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard will serve as executive producers on the project. Long-time manager of the band Carl Stubner will also executive produce.

“Fans have often told us that we’ve provided the soundtrack to their lives, and this is very much in line with that kind of enthusiastic thinking,” Gibbons told Variety.

Sharp Dressed Man is set to premiere in 2020. Watch Paste’s 2018 Gibbons interview and listen to a 1980 ZZ Top performance from our archives below.
