George R.R. Martin on the Election: “Winter is Coming. I Told You So.”

Politics News George R.R. Martin

Despite the fact that Donald Trump leading a nation seems like something that would make sense amid the chaos and violence of Westeros, George R.R. Martin has no fondness for the outcome of Tuesday’s election. In a blog post titled “President Pussygrabber,” published yesterday morning, the author of the Song of Ice and Fire spared nothing when it came to describe the dire situation he believes America now faces.

There are really no words for how I feel this morning.

America has spoken. I really thought we were better than this. Guess not.

Trump was the least qualified candidate ever nominated by a major party for the presidency. Come January, he will become the worst president in American history, and a dangerously unstable player on the world stage….

Over the next four years, our problems are going to get much, much worse.

And he ended, of course, with a reference that fits all too well in our current political climate:

Winter is coming. I told you so.

None of this, of course, is new information, or any kind of sentiment we haven’t already heard. But there’s something about seeing them written by the man who constructed one of the darkest fictional universes—and who based that world largely on our own history, by the way—that makes you shudder all over again.
