President Barack Obama Calls Clint Dempsey and Tim Howard

Clint Dempsey and Tim Howard got a call from President Obama yesterday, offering what sounded like a very sincere congratulations on a job well done.

Deuce and Howard looked like two men confident enough to agree that, yes, we do deserve a call from the commander in chief—because fastest goal in US World Cup history and most saves ever recorded in a World Cup, thank you very much—but also showed the sort of mature respect and professionalism that has helped a nation fall in love with this team.

In fact, Obama summed it up best with this compliment: “You guys just carry yourself with a lot of class and it makes people really respect the sport, and you guys are really great models for a lot of sportsmen here in the States.”

And when the president said he hoped to see them again soon at the White House, was that code for a Howard-Dempsey 2016 ticket?
