Who says America doesn’t produce any flair players?
Watch 20-year-old Real Salt Lake midfielder Luis Gil embarrass two Los Angeles Galaxy defenders in quick succession with a buy-one-get-one-free nutmeg extravaganza—one a backheel between Dan Gargan’s ankles, the other a poke right through the hole in Omar Gonzalez’ legs—in this weekend’s MLS Western Conference Semi-Final first leg.
Despite Gil’s superb bit of showboating, the playoff game finished 0-0 in Utah, with the second leg on Sunday, Nov. 9, in Los Angeles. Whether RSL advance or not, I’m pretty sure we’ll be seeing plenty more of Luis Gil in the future.
Gil came up though U.S. Soccer’s academy in Bradenton, Florida, before being allocated to Real Salt Lake in 2010. Jurgen Klinsmann is on record as an admirer, giving Gil his national team debut this past February.
