Beastie Boys’ Mike D Unveils Fashion Line with Accessory Designer Clare Vivier

Billboard reports that Mike D of the Beastie Boys has ventured into the fashion industry in a recent collaborative effort with L.A.-based accessory designer Clare Vivier. The aptly named Mike D. x Clare V. line is the first men’s collection of Vivier’s brand, and features items “meant to last” including minimalist T-shirts, wallets and the $525 Tomas Tote “studio bag,” or what the rapper refers to as a “grown man bag.”

Mike D, formally known as Michael Diamond, said that being in a band has made him “innately aesthetically oriented,” but Diamond also stated that the collection “was a very selfish exercise, if you want to get down to it.” Diamond explained that after showing up to the studio without anything for his belongings, he felt too old to be carrying an everyday backpack: “I’ve had backpacks my whole life and I’m a grown man now. I should have something better.’”

Vivier herself has stated that although the line is directed at and designed for men, the line is accessible to anyone. ““But there are more similarities than not, because I would carry everything we’ve made in this collection,” she said. Diamond is excited to venture further into the fashion industry, confirming that his latest line will certainly not be his last. Check out the full collection here.
