Aaron Paul, Elizabeth Perkins, Mekhi Phifer, More Join Apple's Stacked Are You Sleeping Cast

Are You Sleeping has rounded out its cast, with Aaron Paul, Elizabeth Perkins, Mekhi Phifer and Ron Cephas Jones joining Octavia Spencer and Lizzy Caplan in the Apple true-crime series.

Executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and based on the best-selling novel by Kathleen Barber, the 10-episode series will follow an investigative reporter, Poppy Parnell (Spencer), whose podcast reignites interest in a decades-old murder case. Paul will co-star as Warren Cave, the man convicted of the murder. Perkins will play Cave’s mother, who is the subject of Parnell’s podcast.

As for the rest of the star-studded cast, This Is Us’ Jones will play Poppy’s father, with Phifer (ER) as her longtime friend and a former detective. Tracie Thoms (Rent) and Haneefah Wood (Baskets) will play Poppy’s two sisters. As previously announced, Caplan will play twin sisters, daughters of the murdered man at the center of the podcast.

With a stacked cast and Serial creator Sarah Koenig consulting on the series, it will be no surprise if Are You Sleeping garners similar buzz to the podcasts that inspired it.

Paul shared a lengthy statement via Instagram in response to the announcement that he had been cast in the Apple series—read that below.

Here we go! Secret is out. I couldn’t be happier to join forces with my old Sony pals Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht who are now running the ship over on the development side of things at Apple. They are killing the game! They are coming up with some incredible content that I know you all will be very excited about with Are You Sleeping being the very first in production. The brilliant @octaviaspencer (I love you) leads the cast of misfits and I couldn’t be happier to be along side of her and the rest of the team. As an actor, you chase after good material and when I read the first script written by our fearless leader Nichelle Tramble it felt very obvious on what I needed to do. Thank you to all involved especially to my agent @mikejelline over at @unitedtalentagency and to @xomichellelee and the rest of the power team behind all things over at Apple. Feel blessed to be part of the family.
