Blumhouse Expands With New TV Division, Sets The Purge Adaptation

Blumhouse, the now-17-year-old brainchild of Jason Blum and the company behind such hit horror franchises as Paranormal Activity, Insidious and The Purge, is launching a TV division with ITV Studios. Together, the two studios will be backing an adaptation of The Purge for USA Network and Syfy, as well as Showtime’s forthcoming Secure and Hold: The Last Days of Roger Ailes, a limited scripted series on the former head of Fox News.

This expansion is a promising step forward for a studio that has already contributed multitudes to both the big and small screens. In addition to backing the aforementioned horror titles, Blumhouse is in the midst of a 10-year deal with Universal Pictures that has resulted in critical and commercial hits like Whiplash and Get Out, whereas Blumhouse Television has thus far made a considerable impression by producing shows like The River and The Jinx, and made-for-TV movies like HBO’s The Normal Heart.

“Over the past few years, we have been working to build Blumhouse Television into an independent studio so we can have the autonomy to work with the best storytellers and give them freedom to create the best dark genre programming. It is a dream that day is here,” Blum shared in a statement. “Julian and his team at ITV are remarkable partners and we can’t wait to kick things off with The Purge and Secure and Hold. We are excited that with the launch of this new studio, we are expanding our partnership with NBCUniversal by growing The Purge franchise into a television series and are grateful for their incredible support of Blumhouse overall.”
