Good Omens Casts Beelzebub, Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Neil Gaiman’s television adaptation of his novel, Good Omens, found its Beelzebub and three of the four Horsemen of the Apocaypse (all but Death).

Today Amazon announced the casting of Anna Maxwell Martin (Philomena) as the big bad demon, Beelzebub, alongside Mireille Enos (World War Z) as War, Lourdes Faberes (Knightfall) as Pollution (who replaced Pestilence in the novel) and Yusuf Gatewood (The Originals) as Famine.

Gaiman said in a statement that Martin will be “the Beelzebub of our dreams. Well, nightmares.” Enos, best known for her starring role in AMC’s The Killing, praised the show’s script and asked, “How could I turn down playing one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse???”

The Horsemen of the Apocalypse play a significant role in one of the book’s main subplots. The novel’s main plot revolves around the Antichrist, a child named Adam, and the armageddon that he triggers. The armageddon signals the end of the world, necessitating the Horsemen. No word yet on what lucky actor will play Death, aside from a cryptic quote from Gaiman: “We are hoping Death will be played by Death.”

Martin Sheen and David Tennant will star as the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, respectively. Jon Hamm was also cast as the Archangel Gabriel earlier this month.

Good Omens is currently shooting in the U.K., and will debut on Amazon Prime in 2019. It is directed by Douglas Mackinnon, with Gaiman serving as showrunner.
