J.J. Abrams Bids for TV Writing Return With Untitled Space Drama

THR reported Tuesday that J.J. Abrams is currently shopping a script in hopes of making his return to the ever-growing television landscape. This would be the first Abrams-written series since the 2008 cancellation of cult favorite Fringe.

Abrams’ script involves a scientist’s daughter and husband being transported to a dystopian land led by an oppressive force after a terrible car crash leaves the mother comatose. Right now, the project is being optioned by Warner Bros. Television and Abrams’s Bad Robot Productions, with Apple and HBO being the top contenders for the untitled drama.

Currently, Abrams is executive producing shows across various platforms like HBO’s Westworld and Hulu’s forthcoming Stephen King anthology series Castle Rock, along with film franchises Star Wars, Cloverfield and Star Trek.
