MomoCon Prepares for 40,000 Anime Fans in Atlanta

MomoCon’s mix of Japanese anime, American animation, cosplay and gaming has firmly taken root since founders Jessica Merriman and Chris Stuckey gathered 700 like-minded enthusiasts at the Georgia Tech student center in 2006. The 2023 edition is poised to attract more than 40,000 attendees to its current home, taking up 750,000 square feet in the Georgia World Congress Center today through Sunday, May 28.

“We’re excited to be back at the Georgia World Congress Center to show our guests a new and more exciting MomoCon experience,” says Merriman in a statement. “MomoCon 2023 has some incredible guests, including Run-DMC founder Darryl McDaniels, comic book artist Mark Brooks, voice actress Adassa, and animation legend Don Bluth.”

Despite the guests, the event remains very participant-focused with costume contests, singing contests, game tournaments, trivia and, my personal favorite, giant foam weapon battles. Gaming tournaments will include Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Rivals of Aether, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Party Superstars, Tekken 7, and Guilty Gear Strive. Both the gaming floor (a 300,000-square-foot area of videogames, board games, card games and role-playing games) and the retail area (featuring manga, figurines, posters, comics, artwork and just about anything else you can imagine) are enormous.

Tickets and details are available at MomoCon.com.
