Gina Rodriguez, David Thewlis Join Season Two of Big Mouth

Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and David Thewlis (Fargo, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows have joined the cast of the second season of Netflix’s irreverent sex-ed comedy Big Mouth, according to IndieWire.

The animated comedy, which brings all your pubescent nightmares to life, was created by real-life besties Nick Kroll (The Kroll Show) and Andrew Goldberg (Family Guy) alongside directing and screenwriting husband-and-wife duo Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett (Journey to the Center of the Earth). The series follows four friends as they stare directly down the barrel of puberty, accompanied by the looming hormone monsters that shape their actions and fuel their hilariously cringe-y explorations of sex and bodily changes.

Kroll voices teenage Nick, as well as Maurice the Hormone Monster. The show additionally features an already mind-boggling comedic cast, including John Mulaney, Maya Rudolph, Jenny Slate, Jessi Klein, Fred Armisen, Jason Mantzoukas, Andrew Rannells and Jordan Peele.

Rodriguez is cast to play Gina (that’s a freebie), a girl on Missy (Slate) and Jessi’s (Klein) soccer team. Big Mouth will be Rodriguez’s fourth collaboration with Netflix; in March, she signed on to voice and play ‘90s educational computer game crime lord Carmen Sandiego in both an animated series and a stand-alone live-action movie for Netflix. She is also starring in and producing Someone Great, a romantic-comedy, for the streaming giant.

Thewlis will voice the oh-so-ominous Shame Wizard, who, according to a Netflix press release, is “the Hormone Monster’s mortal enemy who haunts the kids, stoking their deepest shames.” Thewlis recently spoke with Paste about his nefarious role on the FX series Fargo.
