The Shelbys Are Back in the Season Five Trailer for BBC’s Peaky Blinders

The crime-syndicated Shelby family is back, and in the trailer for Season Five of Peaky Blinders it seems they may have a new enemy.

Reeling from the results of season four, Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby is diving into politics, and according to the trailer, it seems either someone is going to try to hang Tommy, or he’s going to hang himself.

The season, which is expected to premiere on BBC later this year, focuses on Tommy’s role in Parliament after the 1929 financial crash. Subsequently, Tommy not only has to make decisions for his family, but also for the entire nation. While doing so, Tommy is confronted by a peculiar politician who has a bold new vision for Britain.

The BBC show will see some new additions to the star-studded cast, including The Nightingale’s Sam Claflin and Split/Glass star Anya Taylor-Joy. Brian Gleeson (Phantom Thread), Kate Dickie (The Witch), Neil Maskell (The Mummy), Cosmo Jarvis (Lady Macbeth) and Emmett J. Scanlon (Guardians of the Galaxy) will also join the season. Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle and Finn Cole will return to series for the fifth season, as well.

“The story of the Peaky Blinders and of the Shelby family gets woven into the political fabric of Britain and Europe as the 1920’s end and the thirties begin,” Steven Knight, the series’ creator, previously told Entertainment Weekly. “Tommy Shelby faces the darkest force he has ever faced and his struggle is as relevant today as it was then.”
