New on Showtime: All the Movies and TV Coming in March

We’ve reached that time of the month once more—that time when we look ahead to what we’ll be watching once another page comes off the calendar. The first of our streaming previews for the month of March comes from Showtime, which will be adding some noteworthy television shows and films before you know it. Read on to find out which.

Starting on the TV side of Showtime’s slate, the most anticipated March addition has to be the third season of the channel’s hit original drama Billions, from showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The series, which Showtime describes as a complex drama about power politics in the world of New York high finance, stars Oscar nominee (and Emmy and Golden Globe winner) Paul Giamatti as shrewd, savvy U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades and Emmy and Golden Globe winner Damian Lewis as brilliant, ambitious hedge fund king Bobby “Axe” Axelrod. Billions’ title alludes to the high financial stakes of the show, as Rhoades and Axelrod endeavor to destroy each other, and its latest season finds the two adversaries adjusting to a world that has shifted on its axis since the events of season two. The new season of Billions debuts on Sunday, March 25 at 10 p.m. EST. A number of new Showtime originals will also air new episodes in March, including acclaimed rookie drama The Chi, set to air its first season finale on Sunday, March 18 at 10 p.m. EST. The channel’s long-running top drama Homeland began its penultimate seventh season on a rough note this past Sunday, and will continue to air new episodes on Sundays at 9 p.m. EST. Meanwhile, animated political parody Our Cartoon President will continue to air new episodes on Sundays at 8 p.m. EST—the 10-episode series from executive producer Stephen Colbert somehow purports to turn the man who happens to be president into even more of a caricature than he already is. And also airing its finale next month is character-driven, verité-style docu-series The Trade, which “crisscrosses North America to explore the opioid epidemic from the intimate perspective of growers, addicts and law enforcement on both sides of the border.” The conclusion of the docu-series will be available to stream starting Friday, March 2 at 9 p.m. EST.

There aren’t as many interesting options on the feature film side of things, but Showtime’s March slate still includes a few eye-catching titles. On the first of the month, incoming films include Terry Gilliam’s Oscar-nominated The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, 2002 teen adventure flick Clockstoppers, notoriously gory Eli Roth torture-horror films Hostel and Hostel: Part II, star-studded Frank Oz romantic comedy In & Out, Paul Thomas Anderson’s acclaimed, Adam Sandler-starring Punch-Drunk Love, and one of M. Night Shymalan’s finest supernatural thrillers, 2000’s Unbreakable. Following those films later in the month are big-budget interplanetary romance The Space Between Us on March 2, Brian De Palma and Al Pacino’s early-’90s crime drama Carlito’s Way on March 3, 2016 Bryan Cranston vehicle Wakefield on March 9, Peter Berg’s Boston Marathon bombing drama Patriots Day on March 10, Robert De Niro-directed 2006 CIA drama The Good Shepherd on March 16 and time-looping young-adult drama Before I Fall on March 17. So while it’s not Showtime’s best-ever set of new films, there are certainly quality options to be found by the discerning viewer.

And where documentaries, comedy specials and streaming collections are concerned, the channel is incorporating a couple of titles you should be aware of, including true-crime thriller Operation Odessa, streaming on March 31 at 9 p.m. EST after making its world premiere at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival, and Shaquille O’Neal-hosted comedy special Shaquille O’Neal Presents: All Star Comedy Jam: I’m Still Laughing, streaming on March 23. Showtime’s new streaming collections will include feature films themed on female empowerment, space exploration, teen spirit, Boston pride, LGBTQ stories and movies for fans of Billions.
