Get a Taste of Star Trek: Picard with First Teaser Trailer

CBS All Access made it so on Thursday afternoon, sharing a surprise first teaser trailer for Star Trek: Picard.

The teaser shows the new frontier Picard has been tackling since retiring from Starfleet 15 years ago: He’s a winemaker, and a fairly successful-looking one to boot. A purveyor of the finest reds, Chateau Picard strikes us as an extensive operation, with at least a hectare or two of vines. To our eyes, the label on the Bourgogne is classy, if a bit simplistic, and we can only hope that the vintages age nicely to create a full-bodied and aromatic oaky flavor.

Life on the vineyard is never as simple as you hope it to be, though. In a voiceover, a woman wonders what Picard’s mental state has been like since leaving Starfleet following him leading the organization out of the darkness. “What did that cost you?” she asks. “Your faith? Your faith in us? Your faith in yourself? Tell us, why did you leave Starfleet, admiral?”

These are the type of huge, thematic questions Star Trek has never shied away from asking, but they’re also the type of questions you’d likely rather just … drink away, especially if you have so much wine at your disposal.

A CBS press release promises that Star Trek: Picard will “follow this iconic character into the next chapter of his life,” but we don’t trust that for one second. The prominence of the Starfleet iconography in the show’s official logo certainly seems to suggest the man is getting roped back in, somehow. Just when he thought he was out …

Or maybe—and fingers crossed, here—Starfleet’s just looking to invest into some fine wines. The poster down below shows how the vines could be rearranged to have the Starfleet logo visible from the skies, in what would surely be a nightmare for the farmhands operating the plow.

As we previously reported, Sir Patrick Stewart will of course reprise his role as the iconic Jean-Luc Picard. He’ll be joined by Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway. There’s no set release date for Star Trek: Picard yet, but we know it’ll be an exclusive on CBS All Access, streaming sometime soon.

Pour some red and really let it aerate before you drink down the official teaser trailer and poster below.
