February is only a day away, and what better time for Starz subscribers to acquainted with the upcoming month’s additions to (and subtractions from) the service’s streaming library? Let’s dive right in—the day’s a-wastin’.
Starz will see a fan-favorite TV series return for a new season next month, while another long-running original series will come to an end. The former is Outlander, the Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s novel series of the same name, which returns for its Season 5 premiere on Sunday, Feb. 16. The romantic fantasy-drama’s latest episodes find Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) Fraser fighting for their family and the home they’ve built on Fraser’s Ridge, navigating the many perils that they can foresee, as well as those they can’t. As for the Starz show that’s coming to an end, the Power series finale arrives on Sunday, Feb. 9 (airing on Starz at 8 p.m. ET and streaming on the Starz app at 12:01 a.m. ET). The acclaimed drama, created by Courtney Kemp and executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, is concluding its sixth and final season, revealing to fans who was behind the shooting of protagonist James “Ghost” St. Patrick. And we’ll also point out Season 2 of Starz original Wrong Man, also premiering Sunday, Feb. 9. The six-episode docuseries from Oscar-nominated, Emmy-winning filmmaker Joe Berlinger “examines the cases of three different inmates who are serving life sentences on murder convictions but who claim innocence”—Season 2 will “continue to uncover new theories and reveal startling new evidence that could prove that three new inmates are, in fact, not guilty,” per Starz.
Starz is also making some worthwhile additions in the feature film department, with the bulk of their new movies arriving on the first of the month, followed by a handful of standout titles later on in February. Feb. 1 brings classic, Jack Nicholson-starring detective tale Chinatown, mind-bending Spike Jonze/Charlie Kaufman joint Being John Malkovich, essential 1953 Western Shane, harrowing Hutu/Tutsi conflict drama Hotel Rwanda, Alexander Payne’s wine country dramedy Sideways, Sergio Leone’s Clint Eastwood-led spaghetti Westerns A Fistful Of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More, Mary Harron’s American Psycho adaptation, Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring Stephen King adaptation The Running Man and more. You’ll have to wait a bit longer to catch 2019 music documentary David Crosby: Remember My Name (Feb. 6), Chris Farley comedy Beverly Hills Ninja (Feb. 14), Oscar-nominated Hugh Grant vehicle About A Boy (Feb. 14), 1997 David Fincher thriller The Game (Feb. 14), late-’80s, live-action He-Man adaptation Masters Of The Universe (Feb. 14), unholy abomination Garfield: The Movie (Feb. 14), Ridley Scott’s Denzel Washington/Russell Crowe crime drama American Gangster (Feb. 16), Gus Van Sant’s Oscar-winning Harvey Milk biopic Milk (Feb. 16) and 2003’s remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Feb. 29), among others.
