Amazon Streaming Series Transparent Off to Promising Start with New Trailer

Amazon has released a trailer for Transparent, a new comedy with an impressive cast starring Jeffrey Tambor as Mort, a middle-aged husband and father who has decided it’s time to share her true gender with her family. “I am a woman,” she tells her daughter, Sarah, played by Amy Landecker, who struggles to grasp the extent to which her father identifies as female.

Mort’s adult children—played by Landecker, Jay Duplass and Gaby Hoffman—each have their secrets, and Mort’s decision to reveal her true self is no doubt the kind of event that could end up bringing the family closer together.

Transparent was created by Jill Soloway, the former Six Feet Under writer who took home the 2013 Sundance Film Festival Directing Award for Afternoon Delight. The trailer features the hallmarks of her style, with skilled actors navigating the story’s shifts in tone, mining complex emotions with humor and empathy. The cast is rounded out by Carrie Brownstein, Melora Hardin, Rob Huebel and Judith Light, who plays Mort’s wife.

Season One of Transparent will be available on Amazon Prime on Sept. 26, 2014.
