Watch: Underground Gets a Return Date in Intense New Teaser

Get ready to return to Underground. WGN America announced today that its breakout hourlong drama will return for a 10-episode second season on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 10 p.m. EST. Season two is set in the aftermath of the Macon 7’s attempt to stage an enormous escape, and follows the former enslaved blacks on their journey toward freedom.

In the first teaser for the show’s new season (and its accompanying image, below), we get our first look at Aisha Hinds (Under the Dome) in full costume as Harriet Tubman, history’s most celebrated Underground Railroad conductor. Hinds will have a recurring guest role in the series’ forthcoming season, and if this teaser is any indication, her fearless character will be a showstealer.

Underground’s new season will also include appearances from Jasika Nicole (Scandal) as Georgia, Michael Trotter (Rosewood) as Biographer, Jesse Luken (Justified) as Smoke and Sadie Stratton (Code Black) as Patty Cannon. John Legend, who is an executive producer on the show alongside Akiva Goldsman, will also guest star as famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass.

Underground recently became the first program to be presented at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. The show was created by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, and will return to televisions this March. Until then, you can check out the teaser above to get a first look at what season two has in store, and find the season’s first image below (click to enlarge).
