About a year ago, Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse and David Lynch gathered together a horde of musical talent, including The Flaming Lips and DM’s current Broken Bells partner, James Mercer, to create Dark Night of the Soul. Much to Danger Mouse’s chagrin, an ongoing legal dispute with the label EMI kept him from releasing music from the project for fear of being sued. Instead, he released a book of photographs (Lynch’s contribution) along with a blank CD-R labeled, “For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.”
Good news came late last week for the project. In an interview with the BBC’s 6 Music, the Mouse revealed that he had settled his differences with EMI and anticipated the release of the album, perhaps as early as the summer.
If you’re keeping score, here’s how EMI is faring as of late: Musicians: 2, Label: 0.

Kind of odd that you posted this story but didn't mention the weekend death of Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous.
I totally agree with you, Mark. Funny that they describe it as DM's album - he's a knob twiddler. Funny that 'late last week' DM settles his dispute with EMI over the release of 'his' album, and that on Saturday 6th March Mark Linkous, the genius brain behind Sparklehorse - writer and creator of the Dark Night of the Soul album, inspired producer whom DM can only aspire to emulate - puts a gun to his head and takes his own life.
OK, before the pedants start - he shot himself in the heart. So much more prosaic and just as one would expect from that tragic bard.
RIP Mark, you were far more loved than you could ever know by those you would never meet.
