HBO helped launch late comedian Sam Kinison's career (he appeared on a Young Comedians special in 1984), and so it's only fitting that it would be the studio to air his new biopic, Brother Sam. The film will be directed by Tom Shadyac, and Kinison will be portrayed by Dan Fogler.
With a sensational ending now in tow, Edward Norton’s Class 5 Films has sold television rights for its unfinished Obama documentary to HBO for “low seven figures,” according to Variety.
As we reported in July, HBO's longest running show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, will start production on its seventh season this December. Although no air date for the premiere has been listed, and the show still needs some executive producers for the 10 episode arc, Variety is reporting that all is well with the show.
Good news all around for HBO's Entourage. Last month, Jeremy Piven won his third consecutive Emmy for his role as Ari Gold on the Hollywood skewering hit show. Now, word comes that the comedy has been renewed for a sixth season.
Sarah Michelle Gellar has struggled to find a new niche since her revered breakout Buffy the Vampire Slayer had its bittersweet finale in 2003. She kept up her horror starlet routine (the Grudge films, The Return) to mixed success,
and then tried her hand at some high-profile indies (The Air I Breathe, Southland Tales) that ultimately fizzled.
Tom Wolfe’s 2004 college expose I Am Charlotte Simmons turned out to be thick in more ways than one. Despite well-publicized research and one of the sharpest eyes for social satire in the genre's history, the 676-page tome was angrily dismissed by critics and by many in college circles as shrill, obvious nonsense.
HBO's new vampire series True Blood, which was just optioned for a second season despite sluggish viewership, has now confirmed four forthcoming regulars.

Pleased that it could turn the story of a curmudgeonly political stalwart into the year’s hottest miniseries with John Adams, HBO is sizing up the search for Abraham Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth as a new miniseries. And they’re getting right to it: The network has brought on veterans David Simon and Tom Fontana to write and produce.
According to Arrested Development alum David Cross, Zach Galifianakis isn't worth paying attention to. "He’s just a fucking standup comic!" Cross told Paste recently.

When Roman Polanski received an Oscar nomination for directing The Pianist a few years ago, it was widely reported that if he returned to the U.S. for the award ceremony he could be arrested. In 1978, he’d been convicted of unlawful sex with a minor and fled the country to avoid prison, and surely no statue short of the Maltese Falcon would be worth such a brazen test of the American justice system. Polanski won the prize, but he was absent from the ceremony.
Curb Your Enthusiasm fans will have a lot to celebrate, very probably enthusiastically, thanks to Larry David’s announcement that he is bringing the show back for a seventh season. But it's not coming till next year, so curb your celebration.
Rumors about TV shows turning into movies are getting everyone all hot and bothered this summer, especially if a little more Sex gets thrown into the mix. HBO’s hit series Sex and the City recently became New Line Cinema’s hit summer movie, and the rumors of a sequel are already boiling.
Actor, writer, and former Phantom Planet drummer Jason Schwartzman is taking on sleuthing, cast as the lead role in HBO's comedy pilot Bored to Death. 
Some advice for all those who were worried: After the five-season inner-city chronicle of Baltimore that was HBO's The Wire, show mastermind David Simon will not be abandoning his writing-producing leanings any time soon. So stop complaining about how the best show on TV is gone forever. Renew your cable subscription. Get ready for more gritty journalistic truths.
John Adams, the HBO miniseries that starred Paul Giamatti as the founding father himself and Laura Linney as his wife Abigail, will be hitting video shelves (and perhaps your home entertainment shelves) on June 10.
