Today marks what would’ve been late West Coast rapper Tupac Shakur’s 45th birthday. In celebration, the first teaser trailer for the Shakur biopic All Eyez On Me was shared on Instagram by radio show Big Boy’s Neighborhood.
That’s newcomer (and non-hologram) Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Tupac. The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira portrays Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, whose voiceover is heard throughout the trailer. The cast is also set to include Jamal Woolard, reprising his Notorious role as The Notorious B.I.G., Stefon Washington as Puff Daddy and another Walking Dead cast member, Lauren Cohan, as Tupac’s manager Leila Steinberg.
Music video director Benny Boom helmed the project after three other directors pulled out, including Boyz n the Hood’s John Singleton.
All Eyez On Me will debut in theaters on Nov. 11. Let’s hope it turns out better than Notorious did. Watch the All Eyez On Me teaser above, and the music video for “California Love” below, off the double album the film gets its name from.
