Netflix, Penguin Collaborate on Stranger Things Books to be Released This Fall

The Stranger Things universe just keeps expanding.

Season three of the hit Netflix show is currently in production, and Friday it was announced that the show is getting a counterpart in a series of books, as Deadline reports. By way of a partnership between Netflix and Penguin Random House, the first two titles are set for release in fall of this year. These two currently untitled books will be a behind-the-scenes companion and a hardcover gift book, but 2019 will bring something perhaps even more exciting: a prequel novel about Eleven’s mother, written by author Gwenda Bond. There’s a lot of unanswered questions about Eleven’s backstory, so a Stranger Things prequel might be just what the doctor ordered.

Additional young adult stories are reportedly on the way in 2019, which is around the same time that season three of Stranger Things is set to premiere. The behind-the-scenes book coming this fall will serve up “advice, wisdom, and warnings from the Stranger Things world,” said the publisher in a statement. Penguin Random House will also publish audiobooks.

While the official premiere date of Stranger Things season three is unconfirmed, early 2019 is looking like a safe bet. It appears the bulk of the original cast is returning, including young musical prodigy Finn Wolfhard (his band Calpurnia is putting out an EP this year), Winona Ryder, David Harbour and teen queen Millie Bobby Brown. Some new faces, including Jake Busey and Cary Elwes, are joining the cast this season, as well.
