The National Lampoon Radio Hour Is Back

Nearly five decades after it was initially released, the National Lampoon Radio Hour is coming back as a podcast, with 11 new episodes starting on Dec. 19.

The groundbreaking radio comedy show that brought the world John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Harold Ramis and more will “feature a collection of hilarious National Lampoon comedy sketches, characters, music and more, who will find their funny through the prose of lead writers Cole Escola (At Home with Amy Sedaris, Difficult People) and Jo Firestone (Adult Swim, The Tonight Show),” promises a press release.

Streaming every Thursday, the new National Lampoon Radio Hour will also invite people into the studio, with cameras capturing the performances and antics of the dynamic comedians while taping—with each episode available on their website and on YouTube.

Evan Shapiro, the president of National Lampoon adds in a statement, “The National Lampoon Radio Hour is an institution. These inmates do it proud.” With the 50th anniversary of the National Lampoon coming up in 2020, they’ve assembled some of today’s funniest names in sketch comedy, including Brett Davis, Alex English, Maeve Higgins, Aaron Jackson, Rachel Pegram, Lorelei Ramirez, Meg Stalter and Martin Urbano. Joining the ensemble in guest roles are Rachel Dratch, At Home with Amy’s Amy Sedaris, Chris Gethard, Julie Klausner and Jordan Klepper.

The National Lampoon Radio Hour will be produced in partnership with Forever Dog Podcast Network, and will be available on Spotify, iTunes and other podcasting services. The announcement of the podcast was accompanied by a short first-look promo clip featuring Escola and Firestone, as well as some BTS pics of the cast, which you can check out below, and an audio sneak peek you can hear here.
