Sacha Baron Cohen in Talks to Star in Showtime Comedy
Photo by Ian Gavan/GettyLincoln warned us that a house divided upon itself cannot stand. FDR told us that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Donald Trump, according to Sacha Baron Cohen’s Twitter bio, gave us this wisdom: “They should have pummeled him [Baron Cohen] to the ground. It would have been great.”
The relationship between the two men has been fraught since Cohen interviewed Trump on Da Ali G Show in 2003, and likely did not improve following Cohen’s Fourth of July tweet about Trump. The tweet featured a clip of Trump critiquing Cohen from his divinely granted pulpit, the From the Desk of YouTube series. “Go to school. Learn about being funny,” Trump says, before the words “Sacha graduates” and the now-defunct Trump University logo appear onscreen. The clip hints that Cohen is back “as you’ve never seen him before.”

Now, it’s being reported that the Borat star is in talks to star in an undisclosed television series on Showtime. The network released a stealthy promotional video of their own that promised “something huge is coming July 15,” according to Variety. “We’d like to tell you about a new comedy that’s coming, but we can’t,” the video reads, citing a non-disclosure agreement. Watch the clip below.
In April, Cohen signed on to star as real-life secret agent Eli Cohen in Netflix’s limited series The Spy. Both projects would mark a return to television for Cohen, his first regular appearances since Da Ali G Show concluded in 2004.
