SNL‘s Beyoncé Parody Empowers the Women in Trump’s Life

Last night’s Saturday Night Live continued to lean hard on this most undignified of election seasons. Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon might be getting most of the attention for their Trump and Clinton impersonations, but Cecily Strong’s been a sleeper MVP with her sharp and humanizing turns as Melania Trump. Last night had perhaps the best “Melania Moments” sketch yet, but the video everybody will remember is this parody of Beyoncé’s Lemonade film. The women in Trump’s life—Melania, Ivanka (Emily Blunt), campaign manager Kellyanne Conway (McKinnon), former Apprentice contestant and director of African-American outreach for the Trump Campaign Omarosa (Sasheer Zamata), and even the oft-ignored Trump daughter Tiffany (Vanessa Bayer)—all tell Trump off like Bey did Jay-Z, with assistance from Mike Pence, before a final sad, deflating moment where they all fall in line almost immediately once Donald shows up. It’s a really well-done recreation and parody of Beyoncé’s film, and a clever commentary on Trump’s horrible treatment of women. Check it out above.
