Get Ready to Avoid Your Responsibilities with Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The gig economy—there’s no escape, is there? Not even on the relaxed “Desert Island Getaway Package” promised in the new trailer for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which Nintendo premiered during their E3 showcase Tuesday.

The charming new trailer shows off all the activities villagers will take on as they build their new home on the island: collecting shells, plucking weeds, catching bugs, fishing and, of course, paying off bills to the dreaded Tom Nook.

In the game, you’ll be able to decorate the entire world—not just your home. Using the resources you collect, you can craft new clothes, pieces of furniture, tools and more. Nintendo is promising more customization options than ever before, including options for your character’s skin tone, a franchise first.

Though initially slated for a 2019 release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now slated to launch on March 20, 2020. In an interview with IGN, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser asserted that the delay is a way to prevent unhealthy labor conditions and development crunch.
