Ubisoft Veteran Corey May Joins 2K Games as Narrative Director

Corey May, best known for being the former lead writer of the Assassin’s Creed games, has been hired by 2K Games as a senior narrative director on an unknown project, according to his Facebook page.

After spending nine years at Ubisoft Montreal overseeing the narrative development of franchises like Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed, as well as writing scripts for other studios’ games (like WB Montreal’s Batman: Arkham Origins), May joined Austin-based developer Certain Affinity last summer. He also has written a number of screenplays for Hollywood studios, and is the co-founder of Sekretagent Productions, a company with which he has sold eight feature films and completed production of one.

Certain Affinity is best known for working on multiplayer content for other studios’ franchises, such as Halo, Call of Duty and Left 4 Dead. The company’s hiring of May last year was apparently a part of their “ambitious new phase,” which involved “becoming experts at single-player and cooperative experiences” by building up their narrative department as they transition into working on their own original projects.

Again, no details have been released regarding what projects May will be involved in at 2K in Novato, Calif. The publisher’s latest release was developer Hangar 13’s Mafia III, a ‘60s-set revenge tale that tackled the issue of systemic racism head on, though the game’s lead writer would tell you it’s about something simpler than that.
