The Nintendo Switch is Now the Fastest-Selling Console in U.S. History

In a surprise announcement, Nintendo of America revealed Thursday that their latest game system, the Nintendo Switch, has become the fastest-selling videogame console in U.S. history. The celebrated system managed this feat by selling 4.8 million units in just 10 months.

The hybrid game system is outpacing and outselling Nintendo’s Wii, which sold 4 million units in the same amount of time. It has also managed to out-sell past champs like Sony’s PS2 and PS4, in large part thanks to the popularity of acclaimed titles The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, the system’s fastest-selling game. Over 60 percent of Switch owners have Super Mario Odyssey, while more than 55 percent own Breath of the Wild.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said in a statement, “Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”
