Sea of Thieves Beta Extended After Bug Locked Players Out
Images via XboxSea of Thieves developer Rare announced earlier today that the closed beta for the forthcoming multiplayer pirate experience will be extended by two days. The window for players to access the beta will now close on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 3 a.m. EST.
The decision to extend the beta comes after reports by multiple players that a bug kept them from accessing it. The beta is available to those who preordered the game, but some received an error message stating they were “Too Early” to access the game. “We know your gaming hours are precious and our number one goal is to get everyone with Closed Beta access into the game as soon as possible … we want to ensure that anyone who has missed out on any time sailing the seas still gets to enjoy the closed beta to its fullest,” said Rare in a statement.
Rare announced Friday that they are fixing the issue, but that the fix would be implemented at different times based on when players purchased their preorder. Those that preordered before the beta began had their access restored before those that preordered after it started. As of yesterday, the developer couldn’t confirm when that fix would come for those who gained access after the beta began. “We apologize for the inconvenience. The fix for these players will take some time to take effect but we will update this page as soon as we have further information,” stated Rare.
Hopefully players will be able to take advantage of the extra time on the high sea sooner rather than later. Sea of Thieves is scheduled to hit store shelves on March 20.
