Instant-Classic Star Wars Battlefront Gameplay Trailer Shows Off Fighter Squadron Mode

To whomever is responsible for creating this trailer, we say, “Great, kid! Don’t get cocky.”

That would be a fair reaction on their part, however: the new trailer, which showcases Star Wars Battlefront’s Fighter Squadron game mode, is an absolute blast, cramming more iconic Star Wars imagery than you can shake a lightsaber at into a thrilling two minutes. DICE and EA unveiled the action-packed clip at Gamescom 2015, stoking a new level of excitement for the much-anticipated third entry in the long-running Star Wars: Battlefront series.

The clip tracks an intense aerial showdown between Rebel and Imperial forces, in which the two sides are ordered to destroy and protect, respectively, an escaping Imperial transport. The trailer’s perspective jumps from one side of the conflict to the other and back as X-Wings, TIE Fighters, A-Wings and TIE Interceptors duke it out in the skies over Sullust. The Millennium Falcon makes a gloriously explosive entrance just in time to save the day, but the triumph is like to be short-lived, judging by an all-too-brief cameo by Boba Fett’s Slave I.

This infectiously exciting trailer makes it hard not to flash back to the old, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron or even X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter days, which is the highest kind of compliment. If Star Wars Battlefront is half the laser-scorched fun those classics were, it’ll be cause for celebration. We’ve got a good feeling about this.

Star Wars Battlefront is set for a Nov. 17 release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Watch the Fighter Squadron gameplay trailer above and the multiplayer gameplay trailer below. Learn all about Fighter Squadron mode here.
