Aardman Animations Announces New Holiday Special, A Winter’s Tale from Shaun the Sheep, Coming to Netflix and BBC One

The holidays came early: Aardman Animations, the studio behind the Shaun the Sheep franchise, with titles like A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (2020), the holiday special Shaun the Sheep: The Farmer’s Llamas (2015) and Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015), will be producing A Winter’s Tale from Shaun the Sheep, set to air during the 2021 holiday season. Fans can watch the half-hour special on Netflix or BBC One. Production will begin in 2020.

In a press release, Aaardman dropped a few hints about the plot, saying, “Shaun’s seasonal excitement turns to dismay when a farmhouse raid to get bigger stockings for the Flock inadvertently leads to Timmy going missing. Can Shaun get Timmy back before he becomes someone else’s present? Prepare for a ‘Santastic’ adventure as everyone learns the true value of Christmas!”

Mark Burton and Giles Pilbrow did the story, with a script also written by Pilbrow. Steve Cox is slated to direct.

Sean Clarke, Managing Director of Aardman, said in a statement, “Aardman films have come to be synonymous with the festive period, which is a real honour. We’re delighted to be continuing this tradition with a Shaun The Sheep seasonal special that will premiere on the BBC for Christmas 2021.”

Sue Deeks, head of program acquisition at the BBC, commented, “Aardman lovingly produce stories with warmth, personality and humor, so we are truly delighted that, following the huge success of The Farmer’s Llamas, the next project in our continuing relationship is another wonderful Shaun The Sheep special.”

In the meantime, fans can watch A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, coming to Netflix on Feb. 14—trailer below.
